Backing Up A
Windows Registry In All OS
It is vital that before any repair of the
Windows registry is undertaken a back-up is made. It is
actually a really simple process, and in the long run can save
a lot of time and hassle. A mistake during the repair process
could lead to a computer needing a complete reinstall.
Completing a back-up is also a good habit to get into when
undertaking any work, and not just when a registry cleaner is
being used.
It is important that any Windows computer user
recognises the importance of the registry. The Windows registry
is the central storage area of the computer, and contains the
entire configuration data required to make the computer work.
It is though extremely susceptible to damage.
A damaged registry, be it as the result of
normal usage, or some sort of virus, does not have to mean a
complete reinstall of the operating system. All that is
required is that the registry is restored to a point before the
damage occurred.
Most of the best registry
cleaners will come with a feature that automatically backs
up the registry before a repair is undertaken, but it is still
a good idea to create manual back-ups as well.
Undertaking a Manual
Back-up
If you are lucky enough to be running the latest versions of
the Windows operating systems, including Windows XP, then
Windows makes the whole process fairly simple. Windows XP in
fact can create automatic restore points, unless the feature
has been manually disabled. These restore points may not
necessarily be the best option but they can prove to be
useful.
Creating your own restore point is very
straightforward, and can be done by following the instructions
below –
Click Start >> All Programs >>
System Tools >> System Restore

Select Create A Restore Point, and rename with
a memorable name -

Once renamed Click OK and thus a restore point
has been created.
It is then a case of creating a copy of the Windows registry,
which is done through the Windows Registry Editor, and then
exporting the copy.
Click Start >> Run >> Type regedit and confirm

This opens the Windows Registry Editor, so make
sure you don’t change anything you shouldn’t otherwise you may
find yourself with serious computer problems.
Click File >> Export

Choose where to export the copy of the registry
to -

Rename the copy so that it is easily
identifiable -

Then click on OK. This process will lead to a copy of the
Windows registry being created and exported, which can be
imported if a mistake occurs during the cleaning process.
If you are suffering from Windows registry
issues then the creation of a back-up needs to work in
conjunction with a good registry repair program. We would
recommend RegCure from ParetoLogic
to solve all of your registry issues. RegCure can even be
downloaded on a free trial basis,
which allows anyone to discover what errors are to be found in
their registry.
