With so many registry repair programs available for purchase
and download , it is often confusing as to know
which program is actually best. Which registry cleaner is going
to fix all of the registry errors and get a computer running
like new? Is the registry cleaner you are looking at worth the
money? And is it safe for your machine?
Testing all of the best registry
cleaners, included testing the program often described as
the best, and this was RegCure from ParetoLogic. Our tests
would hopefully show whether RegCure deserved its elevated
status.
We took our test computer and timed the boot-up time, the
results showed that it came in just under five minutes, at
4:43, anyone who has to wait for a computer to start-up will
know that this feels like an eternity and is far too long to be
right. We then downloaded RegCure from the internet and
installed it from the small file. We were now ready to start
our tests.
Testing RegCure
Having installed RegCure we then let it scan the entire
Windows registry, with no other programs open on our machine.
RegCure quickly reported that it had found 725 errors within
the registry. We followed this first scan up with a second scan
to test the consistency of results.
RegCure again quickly reported 726
errors. A difference of one between scans is
very comforting as it is not unknown for successive scans to
produce widely different results.
With the scans completed we then used RegCure's back-up
feature to create a copy of the Windows registry, as a restore
point. This feature is great in itself as we know that in the
case of anything going wrong the registry can always be
restored. Additionally we also made a restore point using the
Windows operating system, something that should be done
regularly anyway.
The errors were then repaired using RegCure after we had
registered our full version of the repair software.
The last two steps of our testing then involved using the
Start Manager facility, which allowed us to pick and choose the
programs that load during computer start-up. The second step
was to remove some of the icons from our desktop, which were
now rarely used.
The Results of Our
Tests
The first thing we did was to find out whether RegCure had
managed to improve the computer start-up time. From the initial
time of 4:43, boot-up had now been reduced to 2:44, a 40%
reduction in boot-up time. Our test computer now runs much
faster when being used as well and there has been no
reoccurrences of error messages or computer freezes.
Overall we have found that RegCure was safe to use and quick
in its work. RegCure can be downloaded as a free trial that
allows the registry to be scanned, but for the ability to fix
errors found it is necessary to buy the full version.
Purchasing the full version is highly recommended, and it is
not too expensive. This one purchase could get your computer
running like new and so is well worth it.
ParetoLogic also offer a complete money back guarantee, which
will see money returned if the consumer is not completely
satisfied.
The Downside
We have yet to find any computer software that completely
perfect, although RegCure is close to it. There is a downside
to the registry cleaner though, and that occurred when we were
dealing with the support system. We needed to contact customer
service to obtain the key for our version of RegCure, and
whilst it was resolved, it could have been more quickly
fixed.
RegCure Features
Feature wise as well, RegCure is second best to Registry
Mechanic. This is not a big concern, as we do feel that many
features within Registry Mechanic are not required as they are
already present within Windows. In many ways RegCure is better
for this fact as it contains only what is needed from a
registry repair program. For other computer problems not
associated with the registry we would recommend the purchase of
specialised software anyway, registry repair programs are not
designed to fix all computer problems.
We have found that the features within RegCure are
sufficient to clean and organise the Windows registry,
including as they do -
- Back-up creation -Backing up the
registry is vital to the safe repair of any Windows
registry.
- Ignore Items - Identified errors can
be placed on an ignore list so that they will not be
repaired in the future, there may be anomalies within the
registry that a user may want to keep.
- Automatic Repair - RegCure users can
choose to have the program repair errors without the need
for them to be confirmed.
- Scheduling - RegCure allows for future
scheduling to be arranged so that RegCure can automatically
run and identify registry errors, saving the user from
having to remember to run the program.
- Manage Start-up - RegCure will arrange
for programs to be disabled during the boot-up of a
computer, vastly improving the start-up time.
Overall Marks
- Simplicity - 5.0/5.0
RegCure is
really easy to use, and anyone who can get a computer to
start should be able to install and run it. Once loaded the
whole program is easy to navigate around and make use of,
with a logical progression between features.
- Thoroughness - 5.0/5.0
Our testing showed that RegCure was very comprehensive and
also very quick. During its first scan, RegCure located 725
errors, and only an additional one during its second scan.
This consistency in results is very indicative or a
thorough registry repair program. The repair process was
equally quick and comprehensive, and RegCure even allows
for any repair to be undone if required.
- Features and Functions - 4.0/5.0
There is at least one registry cleaner with more features,
although it is debatable whether the additional features
are needed, as they are already built into Windows. RegCure
does what you want from a registry cleaner, and will repair
and optimize the registry to very high standards.
- Support - 3.5/5.0
The support system is not the strongest element of RegCure,
and we had an issue when trying to obtain our missing
registration key. The issue was eventually resolved using
the automatic key retrieval process, but we would have
liked something that exceeded our expectations.
- The Final Score - 4.5/5.0
Despite the low score for support, RegCure is still our
favourite registry cleaner on the market, and as such would
be the only program we would recommend. Try RegCure for
free with a download and scan.
