Our Review Of
Registry Fix
Registry Fix may not be the
best known of registry repair programs but is consistently
acclaimed as being one of the best on the market. As a market
leader it seemed that it was our duty to give it a thorough
test.
Testing Registry Fix
Having installed Registry Fix,
we were actually impressed in the fact that it was a small
program that was going to use only a small amount of computer
memory. The program may not look like the most professional of
applications when loaded, but simple is often best. Registry
Fix is easy to navigate around and given a little bit of
practice is perfectly workable.
Registry Fix
Features
There is nothing that sets Registry Fix above any of its rivals
with its features. There is the basic scan and fix option, and
also manage back-ups within the program. There are some
advanced features including a start-up manager and program
manager, although the only useful feature was the Browser help
manager. This last manager allows Registry fix to disable
internet plug-ins which is advantageous but it is not worth
buying Registry Fix just for that feature.
Overall Marks
- Simplicity – 4.5/5.0
Registry Fix is very easy to install and use. There is no
complication with any of its features, and back-up of the
registry can be done by anyone.
- Thoroughness – 3.5/5.0
The
identification of errors took longer than we would have
expected or hoped for. The fact that it is also found twice
as many errors as programs like RegCure or Registry
Mechanic did not inspire confidence. Such a discrepancy
leads us to believe that it is reporting required keys and
values as errors even though they are needed to make
programs function.
- Features and Functions –
3.0/5.0
Overall the included features were
basic, and even the advanced options did not make Registry
Fix a must buy. The only plus came from the browser help
manager, that can improve internet speed by disabling
plug-ins like toolbars.
- Support – 3.5/5.0
Registry Fix comes with online help manuals, which provide
a basic overview of features and functions of the product.
Additional support also comes from an email helpdesk.
- The Final Score – 3.5/5.0
Registry Fix is a basic registry repair program, but there
are many other programs, like RegCure, that offer a better
option. RegCure for example is quicker, safer and overall
better than Registry Fix.
Registry Fix
Conclusion
We were a bit surprised that Registry Fix is often so highly
scored; it is a good registry cleaner but nothing more.
Registry fix will scan and fix a damaged registry, but there
are even programs around that do it better than Registry Fix.
Speed wise, RegCure and Registry Mechanic are certainly faster
pieces of software, and we are not convinced about the scanning
process either. The fact that so many more errors were found
than other programs makes us believe that it is reporting keys
and values that are not errors but are needed for the running
of the computer.
Overall Registry Fix would not be recommended as the first
choice when it comes to registry cleaners, as there are better
programs available.
